A: Incorporate these three essentials into your spring wardrobe for an updated yet timeless look. White Denim - White denim is back, and it looks so fresh this season. You've got lots of options, including a classic bootcut pair from J Brand and a tailored, trouser style from Hudson. You could also change it up with a white mini from Paige. Pair your white denim with a top in a bright, saturated color or lively print. Metallic Thong Sandals - Invest in the gold "Jitney" thong sandal by Oh Deer. This subtly metallic, Grecian-style sandal will be your go-to shoe for spring and summer. Wear your Jitneys with your white denim, a spring dress, cocktail shorts...basically everything. Polo Shirt - The preppy "logo" polo shirt is definitely a spring essential. For an updated version of this classic style, check out the polos by One Eye Toad. Southern twin sisters created this line specifically for women. Their design features slightly puffed sleeves and a curved hem for a really feminine fit, and the bright colors (cotton candy pink, turquoise) fit right in with this spring's color scheme. Sarah and Beth Hamilton Have Launched Their Own Clothing Line Beth and Sarah Hamilton, were living in Washington, D.C., when they decided Lacoste and Ralph Lauren needed more competition. “Beth brought the idea about doing a clothing line to me,” Sarah said, “and I thought it was a great idea.” Early on, the University of Mississippi alumni had a pretty good idea how they wanted to start their company. “We knew we wanted to start with polo shirts because they’re so classic and timeless and such a good way to get our name out,” Beth said. “We were thinking about animals for a logo.” Soon after the crawfish was considered and rejected, the sisters hit upon One Eye Toad, which is also a play on the Southern pronunciation of “one I told.” They got to thinking the name applied to clothing, as well as to people’s lives. “The people that buy One Eye Toad from us will be ‘toad’ our story, and then, in turn, we hope they will share their story,” Beth said. “Although we are Southern, we want the message of One Eye Toad to be universal and we are going to do our best by traveling across America to get our story ‘toad’ and gather new stories and new friends … along the way.” The pair moved back home to Northeast Mississippi and with help from a pair of silent partners, they’re ready to start the conversation. But let’s not get too far ahead of our story, which really began a few generations ago. The sisters’ great-grand parents, Elizabeth and L.G. Milam operated Milam Manu facturing in Tupelo. Elizabeth Milam started the business in 1928. The Hamilton’s grandmother, Elizabeth McConnell, studied pattern-making in Chicago and New York and designed children’s clothes. Their grandfather, Raeburn McConnell, worked at Milam, as well. The company sold children’s clothes in 48 states and beyond. “I grew up with my grandmother’s influence,” Beth said. “She taught me to design clothes and sketch.” Sarah also received lessons from her grandmother, and both sisters have gotten plenty of support from their parents, Tom and Betsey Hamilton of New Albany, who have no problem referring to themselves as “Papa and Mama Toad.”“They’ve been amazing,” Sarah said. Beth and Sarah settled on two different styles of polos, with each selling for $58. Women have the option of two styles - one traditional, but still designed to fit the feminine form, and a stretchier version with slightly puffy sleeves. There’s a one-eyed toad on all three varieties. . . There are plans to expand the line to include different types of clothing and accessories, but, for now, the women are busy getting the word out for the products they have. They started with a trunk show at Reed’s Department Store in Tupelo, and they have plans to storm the South and present similar shows, which come natural to the pair. “We’ve been to a lot of trunk shows,” Sarah said. Someday, they may find themselves with prime seats for Fashion Week in New York or Paris. That’s for the future. The current course is clear.“Our goal is to have everyone ‘toad,’” Sara said.
