One Eye Toad (One I Told)

Woven into the fabric of life are stories ‘toad’ and ‘re-toad’ by those who inspire us all to reach exceptional goals. It’s only fitting that we let you in on who ‘toad’ us. While the name is the result of our Southern dialect along with a bit of humor, our inspiration for One Eye Toad came from a lady we affectionately called “Gingee”.

Our grandmother was one of those Southern women who was as comfortable baiting a hook as she was shopping on Fifth Avenue. She was classic, traditional but unique and always stylish. In 1935 “Gingee” left Millsaps College to study pattern making and fashion design in Chicago and New York. She returned home to work for Milam Manufacturing Co. founded by her parents. It was there that she designed the popular children’s line, MyLamb.

As young girls, we spent hours with her while sketching our own designs, flipping through pages of Vogue, and walking in heels 5 sizes too big. Looking back, we would describe Gingee’s style as a unique blend of Katherine Hepburn and Coco Chanel since one of the stories she loved to tell was of seeing Katherine Hepburn in her first and last Broadway play – the latter being Coco. It was from her stories of trips to New York and her insight into the ever changing world of fashion that we developed a love for great looking clothes.

As creators of One Eye Toad, we selected a polo of soft cotton pique for our initial shirt providing traditional style with a twist. As we expand our line, our commitment to producing a quality product with excellent workmanship and to providing exceptional service will remain consistent. In keeping with the lady who inspired us we will strive to create clothes that are classic, unique and always stylish.

It is our hope that while wearing One Eye Toad, you too will be reminded of the stories in your lives and of those who inspired you! Get Toad!
